I enjoyed this piece. I would add that we don’t actually know if they are living below their means and where the money will come from to increase their savings and investing. I think having a total picture of spending (including essentials like groceries) would help you to provide the best advice possible.
It would be interesting to see WHERE the "nice to have" money is going. But I think spending is so personal, and with couples, looking at spending can sometimes just lead to the shame piling on. In my work with clients, we've found that focusing on the positives and the saving and looking ahead to where are going, we actually see results and behavior changes. But I totally agree, it's really interesting to see WHAT EXACTLY people are spending money on.
I loved this ! I’m early 30s in a committed relationship and we’ve been trying to figure all this out while trying to talk to my parents about how to maximize their retirement… you could say I got scared seeing their situation so have been wanting to look into it more. More of this please!
Hey AJ!! Wow I loved this. Would you consider sharing the spreadsheet they used as a template so readers can do this exercise for themselves? Signed, a big nerd :)

Excited to see where you go with this!

I love this concept! Love and money are so hard and so awkward. I'm excited to follow along in the next series of posts!
So hard. So awkward. Thanks for reading <3

You did the hardest part already: having the first conversation about money! Good luck and I hope some of my suggestions work for you.
